Remove image metadata and EXIF

Photos often embed location, device, and timestamp metadata. Before sharing client work or publishing stock images, removing EXIF reduces accidental privacy leaks.

The metadata remover processes files locally with WASM—they do not leave your browser for stripping. Download clean copies and keep originals archived separately if you need them later.

Pair metadata removal with compression or format conversion when you are preparing assets for the web.

Use the tool below on JPG or PNG exports before publishing to client galleries, documentation sites, or social channels where metadata leakage is a concern.

This hub groups privacy-focused tools that run in the browser. Processing stays on your device; ImageOptimizer does not upload your files to strip metadata.

If you also need smaller file sizes after cleaning metadata, open the compress or convert hubs from the tools index and run those workflows in the same session.

Metadata removal FAQ

What metadata can be removed?

The image metadata remover targets common EXIF and embedded camera fields in JPG and PNG files. Processing runs in your browser with WASM; files are not uploaded for stripping.

When should I strip EXIF?

Before publishing client deliverables, stock photos, or documentation screenshots when GPS or device details should not travel with the image. Combine with compression from the compress hub when you need smaller files too.

Does removal change image pixels?

Stripping metadata removes non-visual data blocks. Visible pixels stay the same unless you also compress or convert the file in another tool.
