Frequently Asked Questions

What is EXIF data and why should I remove it?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) data includes GPS coordinates, camera model, date/time, and sometimes the photographer's name. Removing it before sharing online protects your privacy — especially GPS data that reveals where photos were taken.

Does social media remove EXIF data automatically?

Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter strip most EXIF data from uploaded images. However, many other platforms (personal websites, forums, cloud storage) do NOT remove it. Always strip metadata before sharing on platforms you're unsure about.

Can removing metadata reduce file size?

Yes, slightly — EXIF data typically adds 5–50KB to a JPEG file. For most images this is negligible, but for large batches it adds up.

Will removing EXIF data affect image quality?

No — we re-encode at 98% quality so pixels stay visually identical. EXIF lives in a separate metadata block from the image data itself.

Can I keep ICC color profiles while removing other metadata?

Yes — choose Keep ICC color profile in the upload settings. This preserves embedded color profiles for JPG, PNG, and WebP while stripping GPS, camera, and other privacy-sensitive EXIF fields. AVIF/HEIF support may vary by browser.
